Folding techniques we use
- True vintage triple-fold (1950s): 3-fold short side, 4-fold inner sandwich fold long side
- True-Vintage-2533 technique (1930s): 3.5-fold inner folding technique with inlays
- True-Vintage-3646 technique (1940s): voluminous 3.5-fold internal folding technique
- OEM-style technology: The OEM-style folding technique is the standard, classic folding technique used on the market and ensures a thin material profile at the lug. The strap runs straight and remains slim at the lug. This makes it compatible with almost all common watch models. Stainless steel tubes are used for lug widths of 24 mm and 26 mm. The tubes are not glued, but held in place by tension and can be pushed out with a pointed object if necessary.
Leather thickness, assembly & behavior with OEM-style technology
- Normal construction at the bridge (≥ approx. 1.5 mm leather thickness)
- Initial assembly is very easy.
- Bridge width 24-28 mm : Leather thickness approx. 4 mm
- Bridge width 22-23 mm : Leather thickness approx. 3 mm
- Bridge width 20-22 mm : Leather thickness approx. 2 mm
Leather thickness, assembly & behavior with true vintage techniques
- Solid construction at the bridge (≥ approx. 2.5 mm leather thickness)
- First assembly deliberately tighter
- Recommendation: Initial assembly without tubes
- After a short period of wear, the leather adapts to the shape of the case.
- Use stainless steel tubes only after approximately 2 weeks.
- Bridge width 24-28 mm : Leather thickness approx. 5-6 mm
- Bridge width 22-23 mm : Leather thickness approx. 3-4 mm
- Bridge width 20-22 mm : Leather thickness approx. 2-3 mm
Manufacturing, Finishing & Drilling
- Completely hand-sewn. Hand-sanded and hand-polished.
- Antique Serafil sewing thread (circa 1960-1970)
- Depending on the configuration , the strap comes with or without a sewn-in buckle. In versions with a sewn-in buckle , the strap and buckle are permanently attached . They belong together – structurally, functionally, and historically. When ordering with a sewn-in buckle, we automatically adjust the hole position for the best possible fit.
- If the strap is ordered without a buckle , we will punch rectangular holes to fit screwed-on OEM buckles .
- The position of the first hole can be specified in the comment field. If no position is specified, we will punch the first hole by default at 55 mm from the web . The hole spacing is 7 mm (center to center). Please indicate any other requirements in the comment field.
Leather inlay of the watch strap
- We use genuine suede for the leather inlay in the color selected in the configurator. This is only implemented if the respective construction and material thickness allow it.
🧱 Material logic & historical construction
We are very reluctant to split leather in order to preserve the natural structure, density, and stability of the material. Therefore, our historical folding techniques follow a clear, artisanal logic:
-
🪵If the original leather is thicker than approximately 2.0 mm, we completely forgo additional linings. The leather is processed as a whole, unsplit material and brought to the desired strap thickness solely through traditional folding techniques.
-
🧩If the outer leather is thinner than approximately 1.9 mm, a suitable leather inlay is used. The thickness of the inlay is always added to the thickness of the outer leather to achieve a historically accurate overall thickness.
-
✋We decide which method to use during production, depending on the type of leather and its natural structure.
-
🕰Both approaches are historically accurate and were already used on originals from the 1930s to the 1960s.
-
📏The goal is always the same: an authentic, solid overall band thickness of approximately 5–6 mm, as was common with original vintage military bracelets.
